After three years of being closed to tourists, Tunisia, one of the Mediterranean’s most affordable destinations, has dropped all vaccination and pre-entry COVID test requirements. Face masks are still required in some indoor spaces. Beyond the world-class beaches, the island of Djerba, connected by a four-mile causeway to the mainland being most notable, tourists can indulge in amateur archeology at many of Tunisia’s best-preserved monuments, such as the ruins of legendary Carthage and the Roman era Amphitheater of El Jam, the Medina of Tunis and the medieval fortress of Ribat.
